Rebuild of Evangelion, known in Japan as Evangelion: New Theatrical Edition (ヱヴァンゲリヲン新劇場版, Evangerion Shin Gekijōban), is a Japanese animated film series and a retelling of the original Neon Genesis Evangelion anime television series, produced by Studio Khara. Hideaki Anno served as the writer and general manager of the project, with Kazuya Tsurumaki and Masayuki directing the films themselves. Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, Ikuto Yamashita and Shirō Sagisu returned to provide character designs, mechanical designs and music respectively. The film tetralogy uses digital ink and paint, some 3D CG animation, and provides new scenes, settings and characters, with a completely new conclusion in the fourth film. Misato et son groupe anti-NERV, Wille, arrivent à Paris rougie par la core-ization. L'équipage du vaisseau Wunder atterrit sur une tour de confinement. Ils ont 720 secondes pour remettre la ville sur pied. Une horde de NERV Evas apparaît et l'Unité Eva 8 améliorée de Mari doit l'intercepter. Entretemps, Shinji, Asuka et Rei flânent au Japon.
Asuka et Mari sont envoyées dans l'espace, pour y récupérer un mystérieux tesseract. Mais en pleine mission, elles sont attaquées par les anges de la SEELE. Soudain, les cris d'Asuka, qui se trouve en difficulté, provoquent l'éveil de la créature contenue dans le tesseract... Pendant ce temps, sur Terre, Kaworu Nagisa s'impatiente de faire enfin connaissance avec Shinji Ikari...
